How to properly make successful weight loss goals and what to do if you fall off the wagon
So let's start off with the power of Goal Setting.
If you don't know how to make good weight loss goals then you need to understand that they can mean the difference between success and failure.
You need to learn how to properly make weight loss goals in order to be focused, motivated and make the right dieting plans.
It's one of the most important, simplest thing you can apply when trying to lose weight, yet people either make ridiculous, over exaggerated goals or don't make any goals at all!
Obviously it's also important to have the right diet and exercise plans, but you need to have something you look forward to and motivated to achieve.
There are 2 types of goals.
There are long term goals and short term goals.
You want to have long term goals in order to motivate you in the long haul, and you also need short term goals in order to stay motivated and engaged on a daily basis.
When I first tried to lose weight I just did what anyone would do.
I started eating properly, and exercised when I could.
I didn't keep track of progress and checked the scale every day.
I lost 2-3 pounds every week and because I didn't have any goals at all, I didn't see any importance in it or felt motivated.
And because of that I had fallen off the wagon.
Not just once, but this cycle happened over 9 times!
I had no idea why I just couldn't stick to my diet.
And you know how every time you fall off the wagon you tend to gain a bit more on the scale than when you started?
Now imagine how that looks after 9 times!
I mean it's just the motivation part that always killed me.
Then one day I overheard a great GREAT quote that went
something like this:
"Goals are the fuel towards achievement."
Let it sink.
If you don't understand what this means, it basically says that goals are like fuel that will help you move towards what you want.
When I heard that beautiful quote, I immediately knew what went wrong every single time.
I didn't have any DAMN GOALS.
So then I made my goals.
I made one that I wanted to achieve right away and one that would take longer to achieve.
I made a short term goal for the next month and a long term goal for the year.
Long story short, before I knew it - I was where I wanted to be.
I looked slim (and somewhat younger) and automatically chose the right foods and always rejected my greatest weakness:
doughnuts and chocolate.
In fact I denied all types of junk food without dying a little inside.
Of course I ate my doughnut or chocolate candy bar once or twice a month because honestly I'll die without them.
But when I do eat them I never over did it because the goals are always on my mind. And have always kept me motivated on a daily basis.
Hopefully you can see how setting your goals are important to your weight loss success.
Now let me show you how to set up your goals so that you stay motivated and make the right food decisions!
It's a simple three step process but remember you have to be realistic and are within your capabilities.
Take into account your limitations.
And consider your personal fitness level, habits, health conditions, and how much time there is available (for exercise.)
Once you have that in mind and have some rough digits follow this simple 3 step process:
Step 1 - Write down in a piece of paper how many pounds you want to lose in 1 month and in 1 year.
Step 2 - Fold that piece of paper and read it every day and right before you go to sleep.
Step 3 - Review your goals after each week, and change your short term goals as you make your progress.
Once you have this down and you accomplish your first goal you will notice that you are experiencing some of the same stuff that I did.
Which may include automatically choosing good foods, never having to worry about cravings, or starve all day.
Afterwards you will want to make goals more process than outcome.
And what I mean by that is instead of wanting an outcome like a 5 pound goal in a week, you may want to start making process goals like - "Run 2 extra miles everyday."
Follow this so you stay motivated and never forget what you have set out to do.
Do that little task, it shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes.
